ANALYSIS OF ARCHIVES OF SUDU HORIZONTAL AXIS SAVONIUS WATER TURBINE ON VERTICAL WATER PIPES USING COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMIC (CFD)

Water resources in Indonesia are very promising to be used as a renewable energy source given the high rainfall and can be used for electricity generation in pico-scale rainwater drains. The savonius turbine is a power plant that is able to utilize kinetic energy in low-speed water flows and low head heights. Previous research was conducted to determine the efficient design of the savonius turbine, one of which was twisting the rotor and producing better results than the ordinary rotor model. This study aims to determine the effect of the angle on the rotor blades on the performance of the savonius turbine in vertical pipe flow. This test is carried out using the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) method which helps in understanding the results of theory and experiment using a computer that can simulate fluid flow. The variables used in this study are the blade angle on the rotor of 110°, 120°, 130° and 140°. The results obtained in this study are the rotor with blade angle of 110° has the best performance compared to the others with a torque value of 0.36 Nm and Cp 0.68.
