Abstract

Body language is a general term for communicating through gestures, postures, signals, and body signs. The body is the main instrument in dance, so dance becomes a form of aesthetic communication. Dance is basically a medium of communication for the community. As a communication medium, dance can be analogous to language, to be able to express moods, emotions, rhythmic and dynamic movements. So that sensitivity to stimulation, motion, space, and time needs to be considered because it requires energy.The choreographer’s interpretation in creating a dance work entitled “Behind Death” has a story based on the author’s empirical experience. Life experience, reading the reality of life, is contained in a work of this dance. “Behind Death” is an interesting reality of human life, both in memories, activities, and the track record of life in society. The dance work “Behind Death” is inseparable from symbols and meanings. Symbol interpretation results based on experience, observation, contained in motion and strengthened by the properties of the dance used.Symbolic interaction is used because it describes how the individual mind and individual self developthrough social processes. Results of analysis and experience from the point of view of communication as the essence of social order. There are three main keys in symbolic interaction, namely mind, self, and society.
