Abstract

Natural fiber reinforced composites are widely researched and developed because of their more environmentally friendly nature so that they can be easily degraded naturally. Gypsum is a composite material product that is used as a building material and is commonly used as partitions for buildings, ceilings, bulk heads and room accessories. However, gypsum also has weaknesses on the ductility side and is not waterproof. The most recent innovation is to modify the use of fiber types that have good strength and stiffness, light weight and low production costs in order to overcome the physical properties of gypsum. Research has been carried out on the manufacture and characterization of cement-gypsum board using sisal fiber (Agave sisalana) and PPC cement mix. Gypsum board is made by varying the mass percentage of sisal fibers. Variations in the percentage of fiber mass used in this study were 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%. In this study, commercial gypsum was used as a comparison. The most optimum variation in the percentage of fiber mass for the manufacture of gypsum board is the percentage of 0% fiber. For the characterization of physical properties obtained a density of 1.185 g / cm3 and a water absorption capacity of 42.53%. The results of density testing on all sample variations have met the reference standard, namely SNI 01-4449-2006 and the absorption value obtained in all sample variations has met the reference standard, namely JIS A-5908-2003.
