The Concept of Biological Assets in The View of Coconut Farmers in Wonosari Village (An Ethnographic Approach)

Abstract

The concept of biological assets from the perspective of coconut farmers is an interesting things to research. This research was conducted in Wonosari Village, Pelangiran District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province. This research uses qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach. As a basis for ethnographic writing carried out using participant observation and interviewing openly and in depth, this research uses the data analysis model from Spradley (1997), including domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis and cultural theme analysis. The results of this research conclude that the concept of biological assets in the view of coconut farmers in Wonosari village (an ethnographic approach) includes: biological assets on coconut plantations are fixed assets that contain income assets for farmers (coconut trunks, coconut leaves, fruit coconut, coconut water, etc.) where biological assets on coconut plantations are assets that generate income for the people of Wonosari which are passed down from generation to generation to coconut farmers. There are four types of obstacles or difficulties experienced by coconut farmers (rainy season, dry season, pests, and plant eating animals). Coconut farmers in Wonosari village have started keeping records that separate income from biological assets from other income.
