ABSTRACT
Social media can also serve as a forum for dialogue about differences of opinion that are
closely related to support or approval of a particular message. Therefore, the presence of
social media has contributed to the rapid increase in public policy via the Internet. The
most common social media used to run campaigns are Instagram and Facebook. In fact,
the use of election campaigns is often abused by many irresponsible political parties who
easily conduct shadow campaigns while muddying the situation among voters. Social
media on Instagram has a huge potential in spreading fake news and also has a big impact
on decision making. This research uses the method of taking the type of data and data
sources, as well as data collection methods. The rise of black campaigns on social media
as a platform for social interaction provides politicians with a new platform to save time
and money. Existing officials have started to turn to digital to achieve the goals of their
constituents. But in reality, existing social media has not always lived up to politicians'
expectations. Most politicians seem unprepared for the tensions of democracy (Putri,
2021). Black campaign activities include election violations, namely criminal and/or
serious violations as referred to in Article 1 paragraph (2) of Law Number 7 of 2017 and
Supreme Court Decree Number 1 of 2018. Therefore, awareness of the issue of election
crimes needs to be revised and harmonized so that its implementation does not cause
violations and injustice to the community.
