Abstract

The road is a means of land transportation to meet economic needs so it must be maintained in good condition. Seawater (puddle) is one of the factors causing damage to road construction with asphalt pavement, especially in coastal areas. This study aims to determine how much influence seawater has on the characteristics of the Lataston Surface Layer (HRS WC) mixture. The mixture used in this study consisted of a mixture of normal asphalt (freshwater) and a mixture of asphalt submerged with seawater using quantitative research methods. The characteristics measured were melting, marshall quotient (MQ), void in a mixture (VIM), and void in mineral aggregate (VMA) using Marshall test equipment. The study was conducted with two variations of immersion, namely immersion for 24 hours and 48 hours, using 30 samples. The amount of asphalt content used in each sample is 6%, 6.5%, 7%, 7.5%, and 8%. The results showed that there was an effect due to seawater immersion, both in 24 hours and 48 hours of seawater immersion. Overall, the old mix of asphalt mixture immersed in seawater will affect increasing the value of VIM, VMA, and melting, while the value of and marshall quotient (MQ) will experience a decrease in loss of durability or durability.
