Abstract

The main component of the main engine on the ship is the fuel system. Failure of the fuel system can be fatal to the main engine. Therefore, the analysis of the failure of the ship's fuel system aims to prevent failures in the fuel system by using the Methods of Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). The PHA method identifies all hazards and accident events that can cause accidents or failures, while the FTA method is a method that detects the causes and consequences of the system experiencing failure caused by one or more supporting components and making it in the bentruk diagram. The use of PHA and FTA methods resulted in several components such as transfer pump, separator, filter, and booster pump failed. The results of the analysis showed MTTF values of 319.7 hours, 504.9 hours, 150.73 hours, and 322.38 hours, from the data it can be known that the filter component quickly failed because it has a low MTTF value, so maintenance and replacement must be more considered so as not to affect the performance of the fuel system.
