Communication ethnography is an approach used to analyze a discourse. The Merariq tradition (elopement) is one part in Sasak traditional marriage process. This tradition is unique and distinct, as elopement is generally considered as a violation of customary law in regions like South Sulawesi, Batak, Lampung, Bali, Bugis, Makassar, Sumbawa, and Mandar. The purpose of this research is to understand how the ethnography of the Merariq tradition is practiced in the Sasak traditional wedding procession in Seketeng Village. The research method employed is qualitative, with informants consisting of individuals involved in the Merariq tradition, religious figures, and community members. Data collection techniques include observation, interview, and documentation. The findings of this research indicate that the Merariq tradition is conducted at a predetermined location by the prospective bride and groom. Communicative events in the Merariq tradition involve a request made by the groom's family to the bride's family. Its function and purpose are to demonstrate the valor and bravery of a man. Communicative acts in this tradition involve requests and desires, akin to what the groom does when eloping with the bride.
