Abstract

Sherlock Holmes as a legendary detective has been adapted in many ways. Numerous studies have also been conducted on the literary canon and its adaptations, but it is necessary to research the character of Sherlock Holmes using a humorous approach. By using the descriptive-qualitative method, humor and its features in Sherlock, a BBC series, are analyzed and explained. It turns out that satire, irony, sarcasm, insults, and absurd jokes become the source of humor. In addition, humor in Sherlock can fulfill various functions referring to the theory of humor proposed by Attardo.
