Abstract

Poto Village, Moyo Hilir District, is the region for the implementation of Ponan Tradition in Sumbawa Regency. This tradition has been going on for a long time from generation to generation which is carried out in the 2nd or 3rd week of February (when the rice is around one month old). However, the big question is what the correlation between this tradition and the agricultural productivity. This study aims to determine and examine farmers' perceptions of the implementation of the Ponan tradition whether it is positively correlated with agricultural productivity on the prayers and hopes that are offered within this tradition. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection methods using interview techniques on selected informants. The results of this study conclude that the community considers what is carried out in the Ponan tradition as a form of gratitude and the opportunity to give charity which is also recommended in Islam. The people of Sumbawa also believe that if you want to be wealthy then give charity. If this phenomenon is correlated with agricultural productivity and farmers' income, it turns out that the implementation of the Ponan tradition is believed by the local community to increase agricultural productivity and income. This is undertaken because of the belief that carrying out the Ponan tradition will escalate the harvest/agricultural productivity
