Abstract

This writing is historical writing (historical research) using library research. This writing aims to determine the resistance efforts of the Indonesian people against the colonial government during the Dutch military aggression I and II. This research uses historical research steps starting from heusristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this research show that the guerrilla war was fought with unequal forces, where the Dutch military strength was much larger and more modern than the Indonesian military strength; and the lack of effectiveness of the linear system that the TNI has implemented in stemming the flow of enemy forces. However, guerrilla war had a big influence in maintaining independence, because guerrilla war proved that the Dutch could not impose their will on the Indonesian people. With the guerrilla war, the Dutch had to return to the negotiating table which ultimately had to recognize the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia.
