Abstract

The viral phenomenon of the Ferdy Sambo case is not new in the world of new media as it is today. Previously, there were cases of Lizard VS Crocodile and Coins for Prita, both of which sparked public opinion. These phenomena are also viral thanks to the help of social media, especially Twitter. In a research, the Press Council and Indonesia Indicator in “Ethical Press Council News: Maintaining and Protecting Press Freedom” (June 2015 Edition), noted that an effective medium for social movements in the form of public opinion is Twitter in the digital era as it is now. This is due to the power of Twitter as a mouthpiece for conventional media news, so many people take advantage of it. The large flow of social media, especially Twitter in building public opinion in society, researchers conducted research on Van Dijk's Discourse Analysis Regarding the Ferdy Sambo Judicial Decision on Public Opinion on Twitter Social Media, to find out how public opinion is related to the results of Ferdy Sambo's decision on Twitter using the method Van Dijk's discourse analysis (macro structure, super structure, micro structure). This study uses a qualitative approach with the method of discourse analysis. The results of the study found that the news contained three text dimensions based on Teun A Van Dijk's theory. The three dimensions are the superstructure, macrostructure, and microstructure dimensions.
